Buying and Selling Real Estate During COVID-19

Auckland is currently in the RED setting of the Protection Framework. Cooper & Co have prepared operating guidelines in line with information provided by the REA and REINZ.

It is important to note that there is no Government mandate for vaccination for real estate, and real estate is not required to use the My Vaccine Pass (MVP) verification process for real estate activities, but may choose to. Real estate operates at the general settings of the traffic light system, however, rules for events may apply for some activities.

General Requirements at RED are as follows:

  • QR Posters will be displayed at all listings and offices
  • Record keeping maintained through either scanning the QR code or completing a visitors register
  • Face coverings will be worn
  • 1 metre physical distancing
  • We will encourage hand sanitising upon entry and exit and use contactless processes where possible
  • All health requirements must be met
  • We will keep a record of all appointments

Safety Plan & Discussion With Vendors

For each new listing we will prepare a safety plan with our vendors to cover the guidelines for real estate and ensure we have a plan and process in place that they are comfortable with.

Open Homes & Private Viewings

When the Public Health Response Order came out (the legislation that sets the rules), it specifically excluded private dwellings from the definition of events. Therefore open homes at private dwellings can follow the gathering guidelines. We will conduct open homes in line with our vendors consent on how they would like to proceed. If a MVP is not required, rules for gatherings will apply and the open home may occur with up to 25 people at any time. If a MVP is required, the open home may occur only with people with MVP in attendance, up to 100 people. In this instance, we would also work with our vendors to make alternate arrangements for potential buyers without a MVP to view the property.

Private Viewings will need to be pre-booked via our online registration form which will be stored securely in our system. We will send you a link to the registration form when arranging the viewing.


Our Auctions will continue to be conducted in rooms via livestream every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1pm until the end of January 2022. Only Cooper & Co team members are able to attend the auction in person, with phone bidding only. We will work closely with our vendors and buyers to ensure a seamless auction experience.

In-Home/On-Site Real Estate Services

This includes meeting clients, appraisals, property visits, pre-settlement inspections, specialist inspections, professional services, signing documentation and settlement. These services can all occur either with or without a MVP, providing details are registered and all general health requirements are adhered to.
